Tip:

Staff wages can become a burden - minimise costs where you can.

Staff

Different types of staff can be hired - they each help your club in different ways:

  • Coaches
  • Sports Psychologists
  • PR Officers
  • Financial Advisors

In terms of cost, coaches will collect a salary of £2,500 each per week, whilst the others will only ask for £1,500 each per week.

If you fire a staff member, you will have to give them a redundancy payment to the value of a weeks wages.
However when in debt, the bank will allow you to fire coaches as they see this as down-sizing your company thus saving money in the long-term.
But they will not allow you to hire any coaches even if you will be in credit after the next financial update (current sales are not taken into consideration).
If you do try to hire coaches during these times then there will be a diary entry, but they will not arrive nor will you be charged the £1,500 or £2,500.

Coaches

Coaches can be used to train each of the 'primary' skills a player has:

  • Batting
  • Bowling
  • Wicket Keeping
  • Fielding
  • Stamina

There is no limit as to how many of each of these coaches you can hire, but there is a limit as to their effectiveness.
If you train the same player using more than one primary skill net, the effectiveness of the 2nd net is only 50% of the first net. And the 3rd net is only 50% as effective and the 2nd net.

Although you can hire more than 10 coaches, you can only use 10 - the rest just suck up wages and do nothing.

Lets say the reduction in effectiveness for subsequent coaches (ie. more than one primary net on same player) is 50%:

Net Effectiveness of this net Total skill nets received Contribution by this net
1st 100% 1.00 1.00
2nd 50% 1.50 0.50
3rd 25% 1.75 0.25
4th 12.5% 1.875 0.125
5th 6.25% 1.940 0.0625
6th 3.125% 1.97125 0.003125
7th 1.5625% 1.9875 0.015625
8th 0.78125% 1.98828125 0.0078125
9th 0.390625% 1.9921875 0.00390625
10th 0.1953125% 1.994140625 0.001953125

Sports Psychologists

They will help with your team's morale, keeping it up even when you are losing.
They are also used in conjunction with the bowling, batting, wicket keeping and fielding coaches to help improve the concentration and consistency of your players being trained.

The optimum number of sport psychs to have is around 5-7 (due to deminishing returns for multiple psychs).

PR Officers

PR Officers improve the mood of your sponsors, simply so that they give you more money.

This table illustrates approximately how many PR guys you should have according to how many members you have:

  • 1 PR: 487 members
  • 2 PR: 603 members
  • 3 PR: 750 members
  • 4 PR: 943 members
  • 5 PR: 1205 members
  • 6 PR: 1584 members
  • 7 PR: 2179 members
  • 8 PR: 3250 members
  • 9 PR: 5750 members
  • 10 PR: 18251 members

And here is a nice formula for it:
i=0.08*(150+20n-n^2)*(m + 500)-1

Where:
i = income from sponsors
n = number of PR Officers
m = number of club members

Financial Advisors

Financial Advisors help you with the management of your club finances.
If you are in debt, they can help arrange a lower interest rate.
If your balance is showing a profit, they will get you a higher interest rate.

Jargon's FA-Helper: FA-Helper.xls (36kb)
This spreadsheet is for maximising your interest income, based on your current balance, and the number of Financial Assistants (FAs) you have. Insert your current balance, insert the number of FAs you currently have, and read the result.
