Calculating your BT20 starting position

There is actually just one pattern for BT20 fixtures, but it is a bit tricky to work out your correct starting position.

GM-Wombat's BT20 League Ladder

In FC and OD, your position as displayed on the league ladder matches your position in working out the schedule but for some reason this is not the case with BT20.

Looking at my League Ladder, you would think that my starting position (Top End Wombats) is position 12. Last season, I finished 7th, but that's not my starting position either.

Here's how you can work out your correct starting position:

Round 1 in FC, OD and BT20 all follow the same basic pattern:

Round 1 FC
Round 1 OD
Round 1 BT20

1 v 2
3 v 4
5 v 6

1 v 2
3 v 4
5 v 6
7 v 8

1 v 2
3 v 4
5 v 6
7 v 8
9 v 10
11 v 12

Here are the Round 1 fixtures for my BT20 league:

Looking at this, you might expect that my starting position is 4. But that is not correct either.

The fixtures that are displayed on the BT20 fixtures list are sorted by starting time. So I need to "unsort" them, using the matchID numbers.

Here is my Round 1 schedule, resorted by matchID number:

[matchID=4657055] - (1) Wentworth Park Dogs v (2) Lord shiva
[matchID=4657056] - (3) mansell99 v (4) Charscot Wanderers
[matchID=4657057] - (5) Eagles v (6) Duck and Dive
[matchID=4657058] - (7) Kodiaks v (8) Exeter CC
[matchID=4657059] - (9) Kafue Wanderers v (10) Bald Eagles
[matchID=4657060] - (11) Somerset Storm v (12) Top End Wombats

So my correct starting position would be 12.

(Yes, I know that is what it said on the original ladder, but that's probably a coinicidence. For example, Kodiaks are demoting from Div IV, so in FC/OD we would expect them to be position 1. The league ladder shows them as position 4, but their correct position is position 7).

Now that I have worked out the correct starting positions for everyone, I can enter these into the League Details section on the Data Entry page.

Season Planner was inspired by BT-Jargon's Timetable-Helper tool, details of which can be found here.

When Timetable-Helper was first developed, FC starting positions had a similar problem to the one above. Jargon (before he was a BT) worked out what the pattern was and published an explanation here. The explanation on that page was vital to decoding the starting pattern for BT20 for Season Planner.
